Open Raise (RFI) Ranges
Based on standard GTO solver outputs (PioSolver, MonkerSolver) simplified for human execution. Consistent with published ranges from Upswing Poker's free RFI charts, PokerCoaching.com, and Jonathan Little's preflop guidelines. Open percentages: UTG ~9-12%, MP ~15-20%, CO ~27-35%, BTN ~42-55%, SB ~35-47%.
Defense vs Open Raise
BB defense frequencies derived from pot-odds math and solver outputs. Against a 3x open, BB needs to defend ~40% to prevent profitable steals. Beginner mode intentionally defends tighter (~15-25%) to avoid postflop mistakes OOP — a deliberate pedagogical choice aligned with Upswing's "tight is right" beginner philosophy.
GTO / Expert Mode
Adds borderline hands that solvers mix at ~50% frequency. These represent the indifference point where EV(action A) ≈ EV(action B). Mixed strategies sourced from 6-max and full-ring solver outputs at 100bb effective stacks with standard rake structures.
Adjustments
GTO ranges are calibrated separately for each game configuration: tournament, tournament with antes (BBA), and cash (raked). Three independent configurations ensure correct range hierarchy:
Antes (tournament-only, BBA standard): Uses the Big Blind Ante (BBA) standard per TDA rules — the BB posts 1 BB extra for the entire table, adding 1bb of dead money at all table sizes. Starting pot increases from 1.5bb to 2.5bb. BBA impact is proportionally larger at short-handed tables (e.g. at 5-max, 1bb extra on a 1.5bb pot is a 67% increase vs the same 67% at 10-max). No antes at heads-up. More dead money widens opening, calling, and shove ranges.
Rake (cash-only, ~5% assumed): Cash games have no antes — antes are tournament-only. Instead, the house takes ~5% rake from each pot (standard for low-mid stakes online/live). Rake makes marginal opens, speculative calls, and light 3-bet bluffs unprofitable — cash GTO ranges are independently tighter than tournament. Cash SB uses raise/limp split per modern solver strategy.
In Beginner mode, antes and rake adjustments are applied as separate modifiers; in GTO mode, each configuration has its own solver-derived range to avoid stacking errors. All ranges cross-checked against standard GTO benchmarks for hierarchy consistency (earlier position ⊂ later position, cash ≤ tournament ≤ tournament+antes).
